Q: I’m still hungry! What should I do?
A: The Slimmm Program has been designed to combat hunger and make sure you feel full for most of the day. If you are still feeling hungry there are a few options below that might help: - Drink more water! Many people have lived with dehydration for so long that they actually mistake the thirst mechanism for hunger. Make sure you drink 2L (or eight glasses) of water every day. This will not only make you feel fuller, but also give you more energy and may even boost your metabolism. - Eat lower GI foods. In general, lower GI foods will release energy over a longer period of time and therefore stop you from getting cravings during the day. For information on which foods are low GI and which are not, see the GI section of this book. - Eat 6 times a day. On the Slimmm Program it is very important that you eat 6 times a day (2 meal replacements, 3 snacks and a balanced meal). This way you get a slow release of energy over the day, avoid cravings and keep your metabolism working at full pace.
Q: I need extra ideas for my balanced meals
A: After an extended period on the Program you may begin to get bored with eating the same things over and over. If this happens, make sure you check out the Slimmm Recipe Book and the Slimmm website and get creative! Both of these resources have heaps of great recipes and ideas to keep things fresh for you.
Q: Is there any way to make the shakes sweeter? Less sweet?
A: The sweetness and intensity of flavour of the shakes can be manipulated by adding more or less water to your shaker. Less water will give a more intense flavour while more water will make the flavour more subtle.
Q: If a food is marked as “low-fat” is it good for me?
A: Some food labels are very misleading. A lowfat product may be very high in sugar and likewise a product with “No Added Sugar” may be very fatty. The best way to gauge whether a food is good or bad for your is to read the nutritional panel. Most packaged foods are required to carry nutritional labelling by law and this can be very helpful while on a weight management Program. In general, when choosing foods or snacks on a low carbohydrate Program, try to choose foods with carbohydrate levels of 10g or less per 100g. The Slimmm Program provides the correct level of carbohydrates for one day, so be careful to avoid carbohydrate-rich foods. You should also aim to keep fats to a moderate level. You should avoid any foods that have more than 15g of fat per 100g.
Q: I get sugar cravings every day. What can I do?
A: Under the Slimmm Program there are a number of mechanisms to deal with cravings. These include the Svetol® green coffee extract, drinking 2L of water (this is vital!), eating lower GI foods and the regular snacks provided under the Program. Another way is to purchase Slimmm Fat Burning Tablets which help to reduce cravings. If these don’t do the trick, tablets with 50g of Chromium or more can also help by regulating your blood sugar levels.
Q: Can I take Slimmm Meal Replacement Products for all of my meals?
A: The Slimmm Program was designed to replace 2 meals a day as part of the overall eating plan described in this guide. Programs whereby you replace 3 meals a day are generally referred to as VLCD’s or Very Low Calorie Diet’s. These Programs are not suitable for most people and should only be carried out under professional supervision. By following the Slimmm Program and replacing two meals a day you should find yourself losing weight at a healthy rate of half to one kilogram per week.
Q: Will my weight yo-yo back up when I stop taking Slimmm?
A: This guide contains details on the maintenance phase of the Slimmm Program. Once you have reached you goal weight, move onto the maintenance Program to keep your new slim shape. The maintenance Program is more flexible than the main Program and ensures that you will stay happy and healthy.
Q: Does Slimmm control the number of calories I eat?
A: The Slimmm Program is primarily a reduced carbohydrate Program, but it does also moderate the number of calories or kilojoules that you eat. The government regulations that set the level of energy, proteins, vitamins and minerals in meal replacement products also guide us in this regard.
Q: Can I lose 5kg in 3 weeks?
A: The rate of healthy weight loss depends on the person undertaking the Program. Whilst on Slimmm, we recommend that losing half to one kilogram per week is a healthy rate, however many people will experience much better results than this in the first week or two. Ongoing results will also depend on the individual.
Q: I can’t help eating snack foods that are around the house. Help!
A: The best way to avoid snacking around the house it to remove temptations! Go through the pantry and cupboards and throw out high sugar and high fat foods and snacks. This will also have the added benefit of improving the diet of the people close to you.
Q: Should I take a multivitamin?
A: Slimmm shakes contain most of the vitamins and minerals that you need during one day. The balance of these is usually made up in the snacks and balanced meals that you eat. Sometimes people will eat poorly or miss snacks or meals however and because of this we recommend taking a once daily multivitamin supplement.
Q: Can I use milk in my shakes instead of water?
A: It is best not to use milk to mix the shakes up on the Slimmm Program. Most types of milk (including low fat) contain a reasonably high level of carbohydrates, which is what we are trying to avoid. Eating too many carbs will minimise the effectiveness of the Slimmm Program.
Q: I have a medical condition. Is Slimmm safe for me?
A: If you have an existing medical condition you should consult a doctor or pharmacist before starting the Slimmm Program.
